Literary Events: Gene Youngblood, Fr. James Martin & Debbie Yee

This week’s best literary arts events include an alternative media lecture at YBCA, the Colbert Report chaplain at USF, and a chapbook making workshop at ARC Studios.

This Friday, Gene Youngblood will make a rare appearance, at YBCA, and give his lecture, Secession from the Broadcast: The Challenge to Create on the Same Scale as We Can Destroy. Youngblood, the author of Expanded Cinema, will lecture on the wild Internet frontier, who’s trying to control it, and how to reach it’s potential.

On Monday, the Colbert Report Chaplain, Rev. James Martin, will sign and speak about his latest book, Between Heaven and Mirth. The NYT best-selling author will speak at the University of San Francisco, covering and relating humor and religion.

Also on Monday, and just in time for Valentine’s Day, ARC Studio & Gallery hosts Giftable: Making Chapbooks with Debbie Lee. In this 3-hour workshop, you’ll learn how to screen print covers and hand-bind books, but writing love poems is all up to you.
