Literary Arts: Annual Big Book Sale, Banned Books & Jane Lynch
This week, the literary scene zig-zags from Fort Mason, down to the SF Library and then all the way up to San Rafael. Trust us, it’s worth the trip.
Get yourself a load of (Indian) summer reads at the 47th Annual Big Book Sale. This Wednesday through Sunday, Fort Mason will be taken over with over 500,000 books, DVDs, CDs, books on tape, vinyl and other fun knick-knacks — all priced at $4 or less! Prices will be lowered every day, with everything priced at $1 or less on Sunday. Even better, all proceeds benefit the San Francisco Public Library’s literacy programs for children, teens and adults.
Really make a literary day of it this Sunday — hit up that $1 book sale, then jet down to the SF Public Library at Civic Center for the Banned Books Expose. Join local authors as they as they read from their favorite banned books (Catcher in the Rye, Lolita or Howl anyone?) and hear their thoughts on literary censorship. After that, cruise north and end the evening with a laugh. Just after her recent success hosting the Emmys, Glee favorite, Jane Lynch will read from her book Happy Accidents.
