Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Oakland Amidst Bomb Threat
An Alaska Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Oakland International Airport Monday morning after a letter containing a bomb threat was discovered at San Francisco International Airport.
SFO spokesman Mike McCarron said the letter was found in a bookstore in Terminal 1 just before 7:00 a.m. It prompted authorities to search the Alaska Airlines Flight 342 from Seattle, which arrived in Oakland about 25 minutes earlier than expected.
Oakland airport officials said the plane landed safely and was moved to an isolated area where the more than 130 passengers and crew were taken to a holding area and re-screened.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and Transportation Security Administration searched both the plane and luggage and found no signs of a bomb.
Two passengers were briefly questioned as the letter noted a certain area of the plane where the bomb may have been. They were sitting in those seats but were questioned and released.
The FBI and TSA continue to investigate the threat.
