Premier Food Event Kicks Off in San Francisco
It is the biggest food, wine and spirits event each year in San Francisco. The week-long SF Chefs 2011 kicks off on Monday with a week of seminars, tastings, demonstrations and an opportunity to see and talk to some of your favorite chefs in San Francisco.
The event has a rich history, showcasing the best of what San Francisco has to offer in terms of culinary brilliance. But behind the food, wine and cocktails, there is a rare opportunity to actually talk to chefs about all things food.
On Monday through Wednesday, there will be a Food Arts Industry Series event held each afternoon at the Westin St. Francis (the hub for the week’s events). Monday’s topic is “Wine Tech Trends and Tools,” Tuesday is “Cocktail Clinic: The Bartender Is In,” and Wednesday is “SF Chefs Think Tank: Culinary Innovation Demos.”
There are also Food Arts Industry Series events on Thursday (two: Location, Location, Location and Coffee Aficionado) and one on Friday ( The Secrets of our Success), but that is also when the other events kick off. Thursday night is the Sugar and Spice Party, Friday is the first of four grand tasting events and also later that night, there is the first of two after parties.
Saturday is filled with events from a cooking demo with Michael Chiarello and Tyler Florence, an afternoon and evening grand tasting, after hours party and an interesting Iron Chef-style challenge featuring San Francisco chefs Chris Cosentino, Elizabeth Falkner, Dominique Crenn and Russell Jackson (more on this event later).
Haven’t had enough food and drinks yet? Don’t worry because there is plenty to fill your palette on Sunday as well. A wine event, date night dinners, family meals and eating healthy at home and the finale, the grand tasting on Sunday afternoon.
Also included as part of the event is San Francisco Restaurant Week from August 1-7. Participating restaurants around town are offering a two-course lunch menu for $20 and a three-course dinner menu for $35.
