San Francisco Muni to Add Pay-by-Phone Option for Parking Meters

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation is adding a more convenient way for drivers to pay for parking at meters in the city.

Later this year, the agency will introduce a pay-by-phone option for meters. It will allow drivers to pay by credit card by using any phone or the internet.

Customers will also be able to receive a text message reminder before their meter expires, be able to add time to their meter remotely and receive their meter receipts online.

In order to use the service, customers will first have to establish an account linked to a credit card. They will then make payments by entering the unique parking location number found on each meter.

The total price will include the regular meter rate plus a convenience fee of up to $.45 per transaction.

Muni is working in conjunction with the SFpark project on the new payment option.
