Morning Beat: Crocodiles, Magic Bullets, Fresh & Onlys

If your only plan this weekend was to cry into a beer mug about how you missed Manchester in the 80s, consider a reschedule. Saturday night, local quintet Magic Bullets bring its Moz-meets-Orange Juice jangle pop to Slim’s in an opening slot for San Diego’s Crocodiles. Their Facebook fanpage lists “FUN” as their only band interest — we’re holding them to that. Cute sweaters, nerdy glasses and a general feeling of ennui not included, but surely welcome.

Locals The Fresh & Onlys are up next on the bill with the garage rock/60s pop sound they continued to explore on last year’s Play It Strange, the first record the band made in a “real” studio.

We’re hoping Crocodiles (apparently not to be confused with the New Zealand act of the same name) will whip out “I Wanna Kill,” equal parts rollicking JAMC tribute and dirtier, grittier Pains of Being Pure At Heart B-side. Extra kudos to the band for scratching “bear” and “fox” off their list of potential animal band names. Catch them before they head to the UK to finish their tour. More info
