Red Vic Movie Theater to Close

The Red Vic Movie House, the beloved one-screen theater in the Haight, where you can sit comfortably on couches, drink a beer and enjoy some of the finest popcorn around, is set to close at the end of this month. Sob!

This is really sad as no other cinema in the city compares. According to the SFBG, the official goodbye date is July 25, the theater’s 31st birthday (it was founded in 1980 and is run by a collective and group of volunteers). “The last film to grace its screen will be perennial Red Vic favorite (and annual Red Vic birthday flick), Harold and Maude (1971).”

So if you want to say your goodbyes, this month will be your last chance to do so. You can catch such classics as Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo and Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil.
