For Chinese New Year: Zheng & Tai Chi Performance
In honor of Chinese New Year, the Pacific Union College department of music presents Yunping Shi on the zheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument, accompanied by local tai chi performers. Shi will present a variety of styles of music, from ancient Chinese melodies to modern, well-known tunes and selections from films. Also performing at this event are local tai chi performers Joan Comendant, Mary Ann McGuire, Dawn Redlaczyk, Linda Snowden, and Susan Hagar.
Shi was born and raised in Shanghai, China, and now resides in Yountville, California. While she was studying to become a doctor in traditional Chinese medicine, she concurrently pursued the highest level of recognition for her instrument, studying under the most famous professor for the Zheng at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Following her graduation, Shi became a music instructor at YK Pao School, the most prestigious private school in Shanghai, where she has worked for the last seven years as their Chinese traditional instrument instructor. Shi also managed an entertainment group, a Chinese-Western music ensemble, and she has performed for many events and commercials throughout Asia for more than ten years.
