YES BUT MAYBE / PLY

SEE EVENT DETAILS
ampersand international arts is extremely pleased to announce two solo exhibitons opening Friday, October 16th, 2015, featuring Bay Area artists, Sydney Cohen and Prajakti Jayavant, and curated by Tracy Wheeler, a collaborator with the gallery since 2010.

YES BUT MAYBE:
 Work by Sydney Cohen.
Sydney Cohen’s paintings evade questions about representation or abstraction-distinctions for an external world, rather than the deeply interior space she explores. Though comprised of individual pieces, her work, which she paints over and over in layers of confident and sophisticated color, can also be read as one long dream. In this dream nothing can be called old or new, or even finished; yet, this work is not ephemeral. It’s solid, stubborn, and fiercely protective of the place beyond language where knowing can reside. It’s work that offers more and more with each viewing — more of the artist and more of oneself.

PLY:
 Work by Prajakti Jayavant
Prajakti Jayavant’s work with paper and paint push off the surface of walls, ceilings and floors as if they are a captured piece of a dance, or a guest at a party roaming the room to find just the right vantage point. Looked at from afar, the seemingly monochromatic work appears solid, grounded, known. On closer inspection subtle gradations in color, texture, treatment, and mark add liquidity to the often-sculptural forms.

Please visit ampersand international arts to view these two exhbitions begining Friday, October 16th through Friday, November 13th 2015, Thursdays and Fridays 12pm-5pm or by appointment.
