Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Presents Brazil in the Gardens: Alessandro Penezzi & Fabiana Cozza

Every summer California Brazil Camp brings a dazzling cast of master Brazilian musicians to the redwoods of Cazadero to teach and share the South American nation's irresistible rhythms and sensuous melodies.
And every summer for 15 years, the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival has invited some of those masters to bring their forest-forged camaraderie to the heart of the city. This year's program features acclaimed São Paulo vocalist Fabiana Cozza, who made her West Coast debut as part of the Festival's 2019 Brazil in the Gardens concert. A leading interpreter of Afro-Brazilian song, she's known for championing young composers while connecting Brazilian music to kindred African traditions in Cape Verde, Congo and Angola. She's joined by composer and guitar maestro Alessandro Penezzi, with whom she's collaborated numerous times over the past two decades. Penezzi has forged deep ties in the Bay Area, recording with flutist and Berkeley Choro Festival founder Jane Lenoir and performing at BrasArte in Berkeley. Like a visit to Ipanema, but maybe not as warm, the afternoon's program offers a refreshing encounter with Brazilian soul.
