Ready for the Kentucky Derby? Yelp South Bay and The Blackbird Tavern are partnering up to host a Kentucky Derby viewing party featuring a musical performance by one of our bluesgrass/gypsy/ragtime favorites, Sour Mash Hug Band.
Who needs to take a trip to the south when we’re gonna get Down & Derby next weekend?!? Elites get a VIP hour from 1-2 p.m. with Buffalo Trace Bourbon mint juleps, Hubert’s lemonade and iced tea, plus appetizers from our host. Come 2 p.m., the party opens to the public!
Get dressed up in your finest seersucker suit or fancy hat and join us!
Old-timey jazz and folk music has been making a comeback in the past few years, but the Sour Mash Hug Band have already been at it for more than a decade, starting out in Oregon as a jug band, busking and train-hopping all over the nation. These days they're living in Oakland and play actual venues. Their sets now include classic jazz cabaret, klezmer, gypsy-folk, Dixieland and bluegrass. It's a trip through all the traditional Pre-WWII genres across the American and European musical landscape. (Aaron Carnes)
