Alicia Coppola is pleased to present the closing reception of Bittersweet Dreams, an exhibition by artist Yarek Godfrey, in participation with the Artist in Residency program at the Hotel California. Bittersweet Dreams closing reception is Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 6-8pm. The artist will be in attendance and complimentary wine and cheese will be provided.
During his Artist in Residency, Godfrey paints and exhibits his works, allowing the public a unique opportunity to view his art-making techniques and gain a greater understanding and appreciation for his processes. Rick Butler, owner of Hotel California, San Francisco says: “We are delighted to introduce this celebrated artist from The City of Lights to The City by the Bay. Come join us for fine wine and fine art - a winning combination by any standard!”
Bittersweet Dreams depicts passing moments in time that are both fanciful and yearning. Godfrey approaches his subjects with an open mind and open heart, asking simply for them to be. His figurative works of love, lust and being reverbs in emotional reach. Godfrey explains: “The almost primitive, and for me, the natural need to express the mix of joy, anguish and solitude is always emotional and magic like an initiation rite. It is the way to communicate without words and to share profound feelings with the risk of revealing too much... of becoming weak by exposing one’ s own nature.”
As a classically trained artist, Godfrey studied for 10 years at the College and Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland. Along with technical mastery, Godfrey is a student of humanity, building dramatic narratives of figurative subjects that are revealed through a subtle monochromatic palette. In totality, Godfrey’s willful artistry arrives in its ability to blend past and present into one, creating a timeless subject. Born in Poland, Godfrey is a French citizen, and since the 1980s has worked from his studio in Paris. Internationally well received, he has a celebrated realm of exhibitions in Krakow, Paris, Strasbourg, Monaco, d’Angers, Cannes, Montreal, Hanover Germany, New York, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Godfrey’s Bittersweet Dreams closing reception is April 25, 2013 from 6 to 8pm at Hotel California, 580 Geary Street San Francisco, CA 94102. It is free and open to the public and includes complimentary wine and cheese. For additional information, please contact Curator, Alicia Coppola, at 310-904-3686 or
