Y-Exchange - Talking about Art and Science

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Y-Exchange is a monthly series of presentations about performing arts, technology, science and how they intersect and inform one another. We invite selected artists and scientists to talk about their life and work with our community. This month Y-Exchange is proud to present Mugwumpin Artistic Director Natalie Greene and Mabel Valdiviezo (with Travis Bennet and Juliana Mendonca).
Mugwumpin and Mabel Valdiviezo & Co. are both current Combustible Resident Artists at CounterPulse. Details and tickets: http://counterpulse.org/event/combustible2019
This event is co-presented by Kinetech Arts, ODC Theatre and Djerassi Resident Artist Program.
Mugwumpin creates live art that ignites radical collaboration, empathy, and curiosity. An award-winning San Francisco-based ensemble, Mugwumpin has a 15-year history of creating original performance works that push against formal boundaries and create sensory rich, physically rigorous, and theatrically innovative performance experiences for audiences. Situated at the intersection of dance, theater, and visual art installation, Mugwumpin shows consistently deliver breathtaking artistic experimentation that is grounded in research and deep intellectual investigation of a subject. Through the Combustible Residency at CounterPulse, Mugwumpin is currently investigating the intersection of truth, lies and technology, with lead artists Michelle Talgarow, Ray Oppenheimer, Wolfgang Wachalovsky, and artistic director Natalie Greene. mugwumpin.org
Mabel Valdiviezo is a techno-shaman who employs the arts as a means of expression to achieve cultural, community, and gender healing. She creates immersive works through film, dance, video art, and painting to explore transnational migration and women’s spirituality. https://www.arts4healing.org
Travis Bennett is a Bay Area web content creator, immersive technology researcher, and technical artist. His work explores the nature of society’s relationship with emerging technologies; such as AR, VR, motion capture, and human movement. openperform.org
Juliana Mendonca is a Venezuelan contemporary dance performer, choreographer and teacher based in Oakland. Juliana co-founded Raíz de Agua, a live music and dance company that creates projects inspired by nature and our relationship with it. raizdeagua.com
