In the past couple years, 22-year-old Sacramento singer-songwriter Xochitl (pronounced So-chee) has come a long way. The folk singer's early material was cute and whimsical. The best of these early tunes is the ultra-catchy "Chico Song"--a paean to her dog. Her material has matured since. These days Xochitl pens dynamic folk songs in the vein of Jason Mraz and John Mayer. Her latest single, "Waiting," incorporates a full band, giving her music even more impact. It will be interesting to see what she writes as she continues to work with more musicians. This show is the debut singer-songwriter showcase at the recently reformatted JJ's Blues.
