Writing Effective Book Proposals

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join local book editor Jay Schaefer for a spirited workshop that will give you the skills to create book proposal that is irresistible to literary agents and book publishers.
As nearly all nonfiction books are sold to book publishers on the basis of a proposal, not a complete manuscript, in this workshop you will learn to shape your idea for a book into an effective proposal, and how to best approach literary agents or book publishers. Whether your book is a memoir, cookbook, political theory, spiritual healing, photographs, or humor, the elements of a book proposal are the same, but making the proposal showcase your concept, your writing, and you the author is the essential step in getting your book published.
Actual proposals from published books will be discussed. This seminar will not focus on fiction (although some of the same principles are relevant). Bring a one sentence pitch and a 200-word description of your project for discussion and polishing.
The course fee includes a copy of the book The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published.
