World Wheel: A remix of traditions reshapes classical elements of antiquity, combining elements from multiple cultures and ideologies and molding them together into something completely unique. Large showpieces of reverence and dreams will grace the walls of Back to the Picture (10th st location) throughout September. Paintings of Gaia, Venus and Urania (the muse of philosophy) are being re-envisioned with a contemporary, cross-cultural slant. Kralique re-imagines figures of divinity and nature with a fresh look that it anything but typical, yet still pays homage to tradition. Through her paintings, the viewer will see Venus as a smiling, inviting Goddess of Love, rather than the typical sultry, femme fatale depictions. Urania, one of the nine muses, is shown as a figure of curiosity, stargazing towards a heaven of nebula and infinity. Gaia, also known as Mother Earth, instead is rendered as a figure of movement and growth. Kralique reminds us, that our world wheel of culture is always connected with the past, present and future, but is still turning. Live music and free food and drink will be available.
