WORD/PLAY: Parlor Games for Rusty English Majors*
This July, Word/Play turns 1, and we've got all-star panels to mark the occasion. Saeed Jones, Casey Childers, and Malinda Lo will face off against Nate Waggoner, Alani Foxall, and Joshua Mohr for meaningless points in a series of made-up literary games.

JULY PANELISTS:
MALINDA LO is the author of several young adult novels including most recently the sci-fi thriller Adaptation, which is a finalist for the 2013 Lambda Book Award and a Bank Street College Best Children’s Book of 2013. Before she became a novelist, she was an economics major, an editorial assistant, a graduate student, and an entertainment reporter. She lives in Northern California with her partner and their dog.
SAEED JONES is the editor of BuzzFeed LGBT. He recently received a Pushcart Prize for Poetry. His work has appeared in Guernica, Ebony Magazine, The Rumpus, Hayden's Ferry Review and West Branch among other publications. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Rutgers University – Newark. His chapbook When the Only Light is Fire is available from Sibling Rivalry Press. He is the recipient of fellowships from Queer / Arts / Mentors and Cave Canem.
NATE WAGGONER is a writer for KQED Pop and an MFA candidate in Fiction at SFSU. His writing has appeared in SF Weekly, Sparkle & Blink, and thefanzine. He has read at KQED's New Kids on the Block Litcrawl event, Quiet Lightning, 851, Bang Out, and Write Club SF. He and his ex-girlfriend host a romance advice podcast called "Invitation to Love," available on iTunes.
CASEY CHILDERS is Co-Founder of the Bay's premiere competitive-reading series, WRITE CLUB SF, and co-hosts the semi-weekly podcast of the same name. He can be found on iTunes as well as live on stage of The Make-Out Room on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
JOSHUA MOHR is the author of four novels, including Damascus, which The New York Times called “Beat-poet cool.” He’s also written Some Things that Meant the World to Me, one of O Magazine’s Top 10 reads of 2009 and a San Francisco Chronicle best-seller, as well as Termite Parade, an Editors’ Choice on The New York Times Best Seller List. He lives in San Francisco and teaches in the MFA program at USF. His latest novel is Fight Song.
ALANI FOXALL Born and raised in the East Bay area, Alani Foxall is part of the sketch comedy group The Leftovers, and has also written for Killing My Lobster and Hot Mess SF. She's currently touring the corporate offices of San Francisco via temp gigs, and occasionally dabbles in improv when appropriate.
