Works for violin paired with piano by two composers from the twentieth century, Satie and Arvo Pärt, provide an antidote to the largely mainstream sounds from that time. Finally, Frederic Rzewski's masterful North American Ballads presents four American folk/labor/anti-war songs along with the models they are based on - two Organ Chorale-Preludes by Bach in arrangements for piano solo by Busoni.
