Master wood carver, Godfried O. Kesse returns to NewPark Mall’s Cultural Corner as the featured artist-in-residence in June.
Kesse was born in Ghana, West Africa. The art of wood carving is a family tradition that has been passed down from generations. The art that will be on exhibit will consist of wooden masks, canes and drums in addition to more great pieces.
Two featured art pieces include a colorful mask entitled Sankofa, a Ghanian adinkra symbol which means, “return and get it.” The second carving is an upright art piece of several people standing in a circle with their arms intertwined and holding up the world. The message is, “If we put our minds together, we can create great ideas.”
The exhibit is FREE and open to the public (closed on Wednesdays and Sundays). For more information, visit
