Learn how to design, draw and paint a three-color pattern on a 12" x 12" birch wood panel. In this 2 hour workshop, painter and textile designer, Melina Finkelstein will guide you through her simple 3-step method for generating patterns with graphite, a ruler and a cup and turning them into works of art with paint. All materials are included.
About the Artist:
Melina Finkelstein is a non-objective painter, textile artist, designer and preservationist who paints bold patterns on wood and fabric, weaves tapestries on a home-made loom and collaborates with textile producers to make historically relevant one-of-a-kind custom rugs and tapestries. Finkelstein established herself as a leading Bay Area textile designer as the co-founder of Peace Industry which closed in 2018 after trade sanctions were placed on Iran. In 2020 she founded Casa Muñiz Design, a creative brand that represents all her creative projects including paintings, textile art, and rugs. She also established the Melina Finkelstein Gallery in Oakland in 2022, representing artwork by Finkelstein and other artists who explore textile-based mediums.
Workshop Agenda:
Melina will show an example of a pattern painting and rug to demonstrate the pattern design process. She will then review the art materials in the workshop kit and the basic steps of the process from beginning to end. Workshop attendees will then be guided through the process of making their own painted pattern, taking photos of their creations at the end of the workshop!
