ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

WILL ACKERMAN
Will Ackerman began as a musician and the founder of Windham Hill Records, discovering major talents such as George Winston, Michael Hedges, Liz Story and Alex de Grassi. Ackerman quickly gained recognition as an unstoppable, brilliant producer. He is the recipient of more than 20 Platinum and Gold Records in the United States and Internationally. The albums he has produced have won multiple ZMR Music Awards; in fact, he has produced more #1 charting albums on the ZMR Charts than any other producer by far.

More recently, Ackerman teamed up with engineer and co-producer Tom Eaton to create Imaginary Road Studios in Vermont, a state of the art facility. Together these two strive to offer a creative space to artists at every level, from the emerging solo piano player to the seasoned artist set on creating award-winning acoustic masterpieces.

Over the past decade, artists recording with Imaginary Road Studios have won dozens of awards and accolades, including Ackerman’s own GRAMMY Award for Best New Age Album in 2004. In 2013, Ackerman was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 9th Annual ZMR Music Awards convention. The award celebrated recent productions as well as his influence on the music he touches. His album, The Gathering, a compilation of music and artists he recently produced, won Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album awards.

Will Ackerman’s unique approach to record making, with his uncanny sense of balance, space and time, continues to produce records which consistently hold positions at the top of the Zone music charts, and his dual legacies as the founder of Windham Hill Records, and as a singular musical voice, continue to draw the finest instrumental performers from around the world to Imaginary Road Studios.

JEFF OSTER
Born in Danville, Illinois, Jeff Oster began playing trumpet at the age of eight. After years of study in classical and jazz, he moved to L.A. in 1979 to pursue a career full time in music. He honed his live performance skills on the LA club scene, then in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Atlantic City. Along the way, he developed an intriguing presence in live performance that has to be seen (and heard) to be fully appreciated. Now living in the San Francisco Bay Area, he continues to play venues locally and around the country.

Jeff’s sound is a combination of his parents’ influences of 30s and 40s lyrical standards and his own passion for progressive rock, jazz and funk. His own brand of fusion features layered soundscapes that include his trumpet, fugelhorn and synthesizer tones. The result is an intoxicating blend of jazz, funk, ambient and new age, which Jeff calls “New Age Ambient Funk.”

Jeff’s music has earned numerous awards – such as ZMR Album of the Year (3x winner), multiple #1 albums on NPR’s Echoes, and 2x winner of Best New Age Song in the Independent Music Awards.
