Long Beach-based Wild Pack of Canaries have so much going on, at times it's like psych-pop band, a math rock band and Radiohead are all playing at the same time. (They even have a member whose sole function is to make weird noises and use electronics to "trip the songs out more.") Yet it all makes sense. Just when it is beginning to seem as if all the spastic layers of sound are about to explode into complete nonsense, it comes together. A bit reminiscent of bands like Bad Weather California and Man Man, they cite their biggest influences as the Beatles and Hella. That works well as an "RIYL" but it only begins to describe their insanity. (Aaron Carnes)
