Whisper and Shout
James Ong
November 21, 2016 - January 5, 2017
Opening Reception: Tuesday November 22, 6-8pm
The Mill SF: 736 Divisadero St.
Four Barrel Coffee and The Mill are pleased to present ‘Whisper and Shout’ by James Ong. James Ong was born in Taiwan and grew up in the U.S. He is fluent in English, but to him Mandarin remains a mystery. Ong uses the creative process as a meditation through which he explores his inner and outer world, resulting in emotionally charged abstract fields of color and mark-making. Painting puts him in a quiet place, allowing him to live in the moment and focus on bringing his imagination to life. Ong’s painting process involves much experimentation and is fluid and reactive, building on chance and unexpected effects. His tools include brushes, painting knives, sculpting tools, paper towels, and paper palettes. He uses his tools to drip, scrub, scrape, and brush paint around the canvas, always hoping for the best, always remaining open to learning from his methods. Join us on Tuesday, November 22nd from 6-8pm for the opening reception. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
