Rebecca Tinsley will discuss her assertions that United States’ withdrawal from Iraq and the region will result in a security vacuum, which Iran and Turkey will fill, allowing them to take over Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Tinsley will also discuss her concerns that the already marginalized Sunni Arabs and Christian, Kurdish and Yazidi minorities will suffer the most.
Tinsley, a former BBC reporter, earned her law degree at the London School of Economics. She has founded charities to help survivors of genocide from Darfur, Rwanda and Uganda and was asked by President Jimmy Carter to start the Carter Center in the United Kingdom. Recently, she has worked with Iraqi refugees suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
