Un-Scripted Theater Company® is proud to present the second annual West Coast Musical Improv Fest! From July 20th-23rd, the Bay Area will be host to 14 of the best musical improv troupes from around the world.
7:30pm Thursday show line-up:
Operavised! (Oakland)We are classically-trained singers/improvisers, performing long-form improvised operas in different styles (including classical, pop, rock, jazz), based on audience-suggestions, the whims of our accompanist, and each other's offers. Why Operavised? "Opera" means different things to different people, but to us, it's musical-theater with the emphasis on the music. We avoid spoken dialog, instead using the traditional recitative/aria format, where the recit moves the story along and the catchy, melodic, arias highlight our characters' emotions. We learned this format by studying the classics: from Mozart to Puccini to Sondheim to Rent. We don't know which genre we'll sing until we're singing it, but once we start singing, we know we're at our best.CAST: Katherine Ahern, Craig Caspian, Rebecca Castelli, Michael Fleming, Liz GarfinkleFlash Mob Musical (San Francisco)Did you know Flash Mob Musical (FMM) came together as a practice group after taking one musical improv class? We loved getting our feet wet with musical improv that much! Flash Mob Musical uses an audience member's suggestion of a favorite song lyric to inspire a montage of scenes and songs made up entirely on the spot. There may be games. There may be call-backs. There may even be musical reprises, but absolutely no narrative!CAST: Amalia Aquino, Shawn Brick, Dustin Clingman, Kate Dramstad, Aimee Lucido, James Liu, Olivia Puera, Rico Roque, Debra Schifrin, Mithra VankipuramMeaningful Touch (Los Angeles)Stemming from Tara Copeland's musical improv school in Los Angeles (Her first Los Angeles class), Meaningful Touch has played and grown together for the last 4 years. They currently run the only indie Musical Improv show in Los Angeles, the Coconut Club, thats an opportunity for all musical improv teams and teams that want to give musical improv a shot to come together and perform. Meaningful Touch loves each other and can't wait to share that love with you!CAST: Chris Corbin, Vinnie Duyck, Danny Cymbal, Matt Flanzer, Rian Kountz
