Join us for 4 days — yes you heard right, 4 DAYS — of improvised musical magic as troupes from around the world come together in San Francisco for our 4th Annual West Coast Musical Improv Fest!
Thursday 7pm show lineup:
Steven’s Sensational Show (San Francisco, CA): Steven J. Burnett fancies himself a singer, actor, writer, performer, director, producer, and vampire enthusiast. Christopher Eickmann is Steven's wildly-talented, beleaguered, grammy-nominated accompanist. Together they craft beautiful, improvised songs as they explore Steven's various ego disorders and insecurities that may involve "audience participation". "Audience participation" is defined by stoking Steven's ego, being relegated to positions of deferential status, and otherwise being intimidated by the gay diva into mad applause as a Pavlovian response to his emotional tyranny. This description was written by Christopher. Please send help.
Major Sixth (San Francisco, CA): Major Sixth is a Leela Performing Improv Ensemble founded in July 2018. We are a devoted group of (mostly) womxn, the majority of whom have been working together since February 2018. We are comprised of performers with various musical backgrounds, including vocal and instrumental, who have bonded over the magic that is musical improv.
Just A Musical (J.A.M.) (Bay Area, CA): We start from a simple suggestion then create a full-length story with only three things known: there'll be a high-energy open; we'll honor the audience’s inspiration; and we'll sing our hearts out. Anything and everything else is on the table: genres, styles, mechanics; consistency or its free-wheeling opposite - wherever the story and our muses take us is where we’ll go.
All That Jazz (Bay Area, CA): All That Jazz creates fully improvised, Broadway style musicals on the spot, based on an audience suggestion. Our stories are set in the great Jazz Era of the 1920s to 1950s, including costumes, jazz music, original improvised songs, and spur of the moment dance numbers! All That Jazz is unique in that our performers also play a variety of musical instruments in our shows. We are an intergenerational, woman-directed ensemble, with a mostly female-identifying cast.
