West Coast Musical Improv Fest - Bookends; Pitch, Please

SEE EVENT DETAILS
After two wonderfully successful years, Un-Scripted Theater Company® is proud to present the third annual West Coast Musical Improv Festival! From July 19th-22nd, the Bay Area will be host to 13 of the best musical improv acts from around the country. Among others, we’ll be featuring national acts like hip-hop troupe A Tribe Called Yes (Seattle), improv karaoke band Surprise Inside (LA), post-apocalyptic Dystopia! The Musical! (Seattle), and a cappella improvisors Pitch, Please (LA). We’ll also feature SF-based favorites like Anthony Veneziale and Vivek Venugopal in American Immigrants, improvised opera with Operavised, 1940s jazz players All That Jazz!, and -- for the very first time -- a musical version of the acclaimed show Speechless! In addition to exciting shows, the West Coast Musical Improv Festival will be holding musical improv workshops for performers and enthusiasts at all levels, in a variety of genres, from extreme beginner to seasoned pro.
Saturday 7pm show lineup:
Bookends: A Musical Journey (San Francisco/New York)Bookends: A Musical Journey is a bi-coastal improvised musical theatre duo made up of improvisors and Un-Scripted alums Diana DiCostanzo and Clay Robeson. Their show is inspired by Jason Robert Brown’s musical The Last Five Years and tells the story (exclusively through song) of two characters whose timelines criss-cross through time. The audience helps establish the given parameters of the characters' relationship and the cast fills in the rest! Diana DiCostanzo is currently an NYC-based actress, improvisor, and singer/songwriter and Clay Robeson is an SF-based improvisor. Their duo was formed with the mission to continue bringing cutting-edge, dramatic, improvised musical theatre to audiences everywhere. They have performed at the New York Musical Improv Festival (2017) and are thrilled to be returning to the West Coast Musical Improv Festival after their debut there in 2017.
Pitch, Please (Los Angeles)Pitch, Please! creates a fully improvised, a cappella, one-act musical out of thin air. Armed with a single suggestion from the audience, Pitch, Please! delves into scenes, songs, dance breaks, heart breaks and character breaks all without the help of a piano. When it comes time to sing, the improvisers on stage create all the accompaniment they need with their own vocal cords, laying down bass lines, melodies, harmonies, ooo’s, ahhhhhh’s, and beats on the spot. If you liked Pitch Perfect, you’ll love Pitch, Please! If you hated Pitch Perfect, your opinion is wrong.
