"For Melody, Wherever She May Find Me" is the name of Walter Strauss' new album of guitar magic. Sometimes, she finds him in Mali, sometimes she finds him in Havana, or Scotland - or the East Bay - collaborating with kora masters and fiddle virtuosos. The new solo guitar album includes exquisite melodies from Mali, the Shetland Isles, and one from our very own American genius Stevie Wonder.
"Walter Strauss brings a whole new sonic dimension to the fingerstyle guitar scene with his signature West African influenced technique, heavily syncopated rhythms, and richly textured lines. Lyrical, totally grooving, and always from the heart, Walter is a true original and one of the most distinctive players today!" - Alex de Grassi, Grammy-nominated guitarist.
In addition to touring solo in the US and UK, Walter has collaborated with wide-ranging talents, like Grammy-winning kora player Mamadou Diabate, renowned Scottish fiddler Jonny Hardie, and west coast songbirds MaMuse. At the Freight's CD release show, special guests will include long time collaborators multi-instrumentalist Joe Craven, Malian hunter's harp player Mamadou Sidibe, and guitarists Stevie Coyle and Bo Carper.
