Pianist Ian Scarfe, mezzo soprano Deborah Rosengaus and violinist Philip Brezina will explore chamber music and songs inspired by the Romani. This music, sometimes labeled "Gypsy," has roots across many cultures but gained popularity across Europe in the Classical and Romantic Eras. Composers such as Brahms, Liszt, Saint-Saens and Lehar will be featured in this entertaining and engaging program.
Mezzo soprano Deborah Rosengaus is a Bay Area native. She has performed internationally and is a sought-after lecturer. She holds a BM from USC and an MM from the Manhattan School of Music.
Pianist Ian Scarfe averages over 100 performances a year across the US, Canada and Europe. He is the founder and director of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, and founding member of the Vinifera Trio, based in California's wine country, and the Zurich Mozart Trio, based in Zurich, Switzerland, as well as the group Nonsemble 6.
Ian is a music associate at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and holds both a master's degree and an artist's certificate.
Violinist Philip Brezina started playing violin at age five and did undergraduate work at The University of Maryland where his quartet was selected to lead the inaugural chamber music outreach program, designed to bring music education to under-privileged youth. Philip now lives in San Francisco; his master's degree is from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is a bluegrass fiddler in The Brothers Comatose, a studio recording artist with the Magik Magik orchestra, and a soloist and principal second in The San Jose Chamber Orchestra.
