Conversation: Vince Aletti and Joel Smith on Peter Hujar
Noted New York–based photography critic Vince Aletti, who was Peter Hujar’s East Village neighbor and friend, and Joel Smith, curator of photography at the Morgan Library and Museum and organizer of Peter Hujar: Speed of Life, converse about Hujar’s compelling work.
Sandra Phillips, adjunct senior curator of photography at BAMPFA and senior curator of photography emeritus at SFMOMA, moderates. The program includes a screening of Peter Hujar: Immersion, a fifteen-minute montage of images from some of the 5700 contact sheets in the Peter Hujar collection at the Morgan, set to an original musical score.
