Vickie Ash Bluegrass Breast Cancer Benefit Concert

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Slim's - Closed (see times)
BENEFIT CONCERT WITH LIVE MUSIC & RAFFLE!
Featuring: Lester T. Raww's Graveside Quartet + The Creak + The P's & Q's + Muleskinner + Trouthound

Please join us for this special night of bluegrass and alt-bluegrass. I'm hosting this benefit show for my big sister, Vickie, who has terminal cancer. What started 5 years ago as breast cancer has moved to her bones, hips, and spine. Her cancer is no longer treatable the traditional method, so she has decided to go the holistic route at a treatment center in Sedona, Arizona. We know this is not a guaranteed cure, but we're thinking positive. Wear your Bay to Breakers costume!

THE GRAVESIDE QUARTET (SF)
Lester T. Raww and his Pine Box Boy cohorts - Possum Carvidi, Col. Timothy Leather, and Uncle Dodds - have created a new band, a side project, and a new sound to celebrate their fascination with things morbid. While the themes are similar, The Graveside Quartet picks up where "Tales From The Emancipated Head" left off, leaving the Pine Box Boys free to continue hootin' and hollerin' their way through Lester's murder ballads. The Graveside Quartet steers clear of the country vibe, dubiously replacing the banjo with an accordion, the Martin guitar for the ukulele, and adding a horn section. Think New Orleans jazz meets Tin Pan Alley meets the Pine Box Boys. It's gonna be killer!

THE CREAK (SF)
The all-new and improved Creak! Yeah! It's been almost a year since one of San Francisco's best loved bluegrass bands, the Creak went into hibernation. They crawled deep down into a dark cave, covered with stalactites and bats, and 9 months later the Creak have come out of hiding and with them they bring a highly anticipated, a finely crafted brand-spankin' new album. So come out and enjoy the return of the Creak!

THE Ps & Qs (SF)
*old-time, good-time, acoustic porch music*
Employing their trademark 3-part harmony blend, The P's & Q's skillfully weave their voices and those of their instruments into sweet porch music. From soft, contemplative ballads to rousing, toe-tapping ditties, The Ps & Qs are sure to please even the most finicky of Americana music lovers.
With Brie McFarland (P) on banjo, ukulele, and all manner of instruments, Janese Hurley (Q) on fiddle and harmonica, and Audrey Howard (&) on guitar. The three of them sing sweet harmonies together which have become a trademark of the band.

MULESKINNER (SF)
*SF's newest stringband*
Muleskinner bring a rock-n-roll energy to it's own unique brand of 21st century bluegrass. Big on tight harmonies and fast tempos they play with energy, authority and above all a sense of fun. Come take a stroll down the stillhouse road with these guys and don't let their shinny black suits scare you.

TROUTHOUND (SF)
*fresh new bluegrass*
Born on the streets of San Francisco, Trouthound are a fresh new bluegrass band. While most bluegrass bands cover songs of traditional bluegrass and/or reinvent roots based songs into a bluegrass style, Trouthound write their own original material, but do toss in some fan favorites and obscure music gems...you know, to keep their listeners happy. Keep an eye out for this band. I see good things in their future.
