The Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center is proud to showcase new works from thought-provoking Marin County artist Vicki Daniel. Her complex acrylic paintings of the female form use “strong colors, lots of texture and multiple transparent layers through which words and symbols appear and disappear, and messages are buried or obscured.â€
Daniel has displayed her work in local businesses and galleries, as well as contributing to charity auctions, breast cancer benefits and events for World AIDS Day. In the past ten years, her career has evolved from commercial photography of emerging Bay Area musicians to encompass painting, teaching and writing.
Artistic expression has provided transformation and healing to Daniel. Of her inspirations she says, “Memories, dreams, humor, desires, passion, emotions, music, and movement influence my art. I often begin a piece with the title, many derived from bits of conversations, or lyrics from songs, and from there the work evolves.â€
Learn more about this fascinating artist and the DeFrank Library’s arts exhibition program at the show closing reception on Saturday, July 27th, 2013 from 4-7 pm in the DeFrank Center library. Refreshments will be served, and the artist will be present to discuss her work and influences.
Paintings from the show will be available for purchase, along with jewelry and cards designed by Vicki Daniel.
