San Jose has had its fair share of crime, tragedy and controversy over the years. Local artist Tamiko Rast is hoping to access some of the city's dark history with her upcoming show, "Veritable San Jose." She's created poster-like paintings based on a handful of unfortunate local events-for instance, the St. James Lynching in 1933. She's also created works about the local Japanese Internment camps during World War II, of which Rast's grandparents were victims. The paintings are abstract, but she'll have detailed explanations of the events that inspired them at the show. (Aaron Carnes)
