Up-Close and Personal - Mindful Art Exhibition/Workshop

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Up-Close and Personal “Leveraging mindful art to reconnect with self”
A lot of what we experience as urban connected beings is influenced by what defines us. However, the expeditiousness tendencies of our brain are quick to fog up our emotions and our understanding of who we are and what led us to develop our views. Views on ourselves, views on art. To explore the intricacies of these realities, Nelfa exposes her understanding of life, art and how to learn how to communicate with our self through art engagement.
To that end, the Mindful Art Engagement Workshop and the Mindful Art Engagement Exhibition are intended to shed light as how our story came to be and what role art plays in making sense out of it. While the fog lifts off our narrative, we become grounded in the present and the art pieces we are interacting with.
LOCATION: 868 Kearny Street (Kearny St and Jackson St).
“We are about to understand, but have not yet understood. This moment is important because it generally does not lie up to its promise.” ? Alain de Botton, Art as Therapy

Mindful Art Engagement Workshop
Join Nelfa for this interactive and engaging one-hour workshop. The workshop will enable attendees to gain insight on their own narrative through interaction with the art pieces exhibited as part of the Up Close and Personal art exhibition. It will be organized following a framework created by Nelfa as to how to interact with art and how to relate to it. The workshop will enable attendees to feel and see more clearly their own narratives. Nelfa will be sharing her own narrative and the creation process.
No prior experience with art is necessary. The workshop is open to every breathing human being! The workshop will run from 3 pm to 4 pm. At 4 pm, we will open the space to the public for the Mindful Art Exhibition.
Mindful Art Exhibition
Nelfa will be presenting her latest work. Her pieces are deeply autobiographical, based on her practice of self-art-therapy. Up Close and Personal celebrates what defines us as not-necessarily-human beings: our quest for meaning, our appreciation – and lack thereof – of life.
“She was never meant to bear the weight of the world on her shoulders. She is life. She is vessel. She is athanor. She is gold that cannot be sold. You rely on her. She relies on God. Eventually, she finds peace. She is Nature brightest yes. As she was feeding you this apple, you opened your eyes. It wouldn’t be the last time she gifted you with life.” – Nelfa about Nelfa

Facilitator Nelfa
Originally from Abidjan (Ivory Coast, West Africa), Nelfa is an artist and airport consultant. Living in the Bay Area since August 2017, Nelfa is influenced by the landscapes she grew up seeing and the diverse experiences she has had living in four different countries and being raised between three cultures. Inspired by her own history, she palliates the violence of unpleasant memories and feelings with art therapy. Nelfa admits that communicating her deepest narratives is difficult at times but eventually, bearing soul out is a stimulating state to be in for creativity. Nelfa is a big advocate of mindful painting, art therapy and using art to take control of one’s narrative.
See nelfa.space for more information on the artist and her Instagram channel iam_nelfa for a pick into her philosophy.

Note: Come with friends, family, or just you. Indulge in an experience you will never forget! For Workshop participants, a small surprise will await you at the end :).
