Twang Bang!

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Twang Bang: alt-country rock vs. cowpunk bluegrass vs. classic honky-tonk

Featuring: Casey Neill & The Norway Rats + Tell River + Laura Benitez & The Heartache

CASEY NEILL & THE NORWAY RATS (Portland)
Rock music informed by post punk ethos, combining haunting dirges and diesel fueled rave-ups. Neill's original weather beaten narratives eschew irony in favor of romance, celebrate society's miscreants, and explore the hidden corners of the American landscape. The Norway Rats, a crack gang of Portland musos, perform Neill's originals with unhinged live energy. With accordions, over-driven guitars, and Neill's raspy voice, the band blends elements of Scots/Irish tunefulness, feral abandon, and heartland rock. Neill has left his impact on audiences in the United States and overseas while touring extensively for more than a decade.

TELL RIVER (SF)
From rocking bluegrass structured tunes to heartfelt ballads, Tell River delivers a well rounded raw sound requiring no sugar coating that is inspired by Love, Loss, Life and Lust. Part country roots, part folk rock, part alt-bluegrass, part cowpunk, and thrown together for your listening pleasure.
The all-star lineup features Adam Diener (vocals/acoustic guitar/harmonica), Randolph Charles (dobro/guitar/trumpet), and two members of the world famous Pine Box Boys; Steven Dodds (drums) and Timothy Leather (upright bass).

LAURA BENITEZ & THE HEARTACHE (East Bay)
Using the three chord tools of country music to tell the simple, unvarnished truth about love, too much whiskey, and the call of the road. Their songs range from honky-tonk shuffles to fiery rock 'n' roll numbers to sweet old-time waltzes, and cover everything from unwed motherhood ("Me or the Baby") to mean drunks ("Don't Wake the Devil"), with a whole lot of heartbreak in between. Their twangy honesty shines through in straightforward arrangements, crystalline harmonies, and spare instrumentation. Beware their catchy hooks and sweet melodies - these stray puppy tunes will follow you home and become your most steadfast companions. If you love Americana and classic honky-tonk, uncensored and unpolished, you'll love this band!
