Celebrate the Bay Area’s own rich Latin Jazz heritage, cultivated by Cal Tjader, as Steve McQuarry presents Tribu. Tribu performs 7-10 pm on Saturday, April 29th, at Chalaca Annexo, 428 Third Street (@ Broadway) in Oakland. Tribu fuses Latin rhythms with West Coast Jazz, re-interpreting the traditional sounds of Mongo Santamaria and Machito, accented by fresh Peruvian cuisine. No cover charge.
The band is led by Steve McQuarry, piano; with Ruben Salcido, alto sax & flute; Dave Casini, vibes; Marcus Lopez, bass; Jesus Gonzales, congas; and Jaime Vanegas timbales/drums.
