at Modern Eden (see times)
Opening Reception: Wednesday March 26, 2014 6-10 pm
Exhibition Dates: March 26 - April 5, 2014

In conjunction with the 2014 Southern Graphics Council International Conference in San Francisco, Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce Traditions & Taboos, a group exhibition presented by Mullowney Printing and Raking Light Projects. Traditions & Taboos highlights the parallels between the tattoo and printmaking worlds through copper etchings of tattoo illustrations. These etchings highlight the outrageous and inventive artistic styles of today’s top contemporary tattooists while paying homage to the long history of traditional techniques, democratic image making and distribution of printmaking media.

Featuring:
Tim Lehi and Jeff Rassier from Black Heart Tattoo, SF
Steve Boltz, Bert Krak, Eli Quinters, and Dan Santoro from Smith Street Tattoo Parlour, Brooklyn
Horitomo from State of Grace, San Jose
Don Ed Hardy, Mary Joy, Jen Lee, and Kahlil Rintye from Tattoo City, SF

Opening the same night is OKTP, a group exhibition curated by Nichol Markowitz. This invitational exhibition will highlight the beauty and versatility of traditional printmaking techniques through small-scale works by 17 contemporary printmaking artists.

Featuring: Tania Arens, Sam Carr-Prindle, Hunter Buck, Paul Mullowney, Nichol Markowitz, Casey Neumann, Courtney Sennish, Meredith French, Jonathan Barcan, Myles Dunigan, Golbanou Moghaddas, Carolyn Hulbert, Nicole Maloof, Catherine Willett, Hye Young Shin, Anne Muntges, and Adrian Bertolone.

The SGC International is the largest print organization in North America. Its annual conference is the biggest annual gathering focused on the field of printmaking. The SGC International will host its 42nd annual conference from March 26-29, 2014 in the San Francisco Bay Area, the first West Coast conference in the organization’s history.

The opening reception for both shows will be held at Modern Eden Gallery on Wednesday, March 26th from 6-10pm. Select featured artists and show curators will be in attendance at the reception. The exhibition will be on display through April 5, 2014 and is free and open to the public.
