What is hip? How about old-school funk bands that never quit? Tower of Power and its famed horn section have been touring for decades and recently marked 45 years as a band. Throughout its years, a wide-ranging lineup of musicians have claimed membership, though Emilio Castillo and Stephen Kupka have remained constant as founding members and authors of most of the band's catalogue. War has been around just as long, surviving the rise and fall of disco in the '70s (just like Tower of Power), and returning to the cultural consciousness via frequent sampling by hip-hop artists.
