Top of the Mark and The Beat Museum Present 2nd Annual Jazz & Poetry Series

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Celebrating the music and spoken word of the 1950s and 1960s, the Poetry & Jazz series returns to Top of the Mark at the InterContinental Mark Hopkins on Tuesday, April 5. In partnership with the San Francisco Beat Museum, the month-long series brings legendary poets and local jazz musicians together for an evening of poetry and music and includes specialty cocktails and bites from Top of the Mark’s Chef Nenad Stefanovic.

The Poetry and Jazz series launched in 2015 in honor of the 60th anniversary of poet Allen Ginsberg’s first public reading of his poem “Howl,” one of the great works of American literature and a piece that is thought to be the birth of the Beat Generation. This series continues to celebrate the renaissance of San Francisco in the 1950s and 1960s. The Top of the Mark was named by the legendary Herb Caen who also coined the term ‘beatnik,’ making it the perfect venue for the series. With custom-created cocktails and bites, comfortable stage seating, fantastic views, and the sounds of iconic poets riffing to jazz beats, guests will enjoy a unique experience throughout the month of April.

Located in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, The Beat Museum is dedicated to spreading the spirit of The Beat Generation. The museum is home to an extensive collection of Beat memorabilia, including original manuscripts and first editions, letters, personal effects, and cultural ephemera, occupying the same ground that was once the epicenter for Beat activity during the 1950s. For more information about The Beat Museum please visit: https://www.kerouac.com.
