Metal-core, death-core, noise-core—this past decade, the metal scene has really seen a rise in bands with "core" suffixes. An early pioneer in heavy "core" music is Nashville's Today is the Day, who's blending of black-metal, hardcore, psych-rock, noise and electronic sounds was ahead of its time when they started in the early '90s. Today it seems right in line with the times as far as extreme, heavy music goes. They are currently touring on their 10th LP, Animal Mother, which is an angry, intense record. That's no surprise.
