See Thomas Paine, the Radical Founding Father author of Common Sense, in British actor writer Ian Ruskin's renowned one-man play. Hear Paine's words on voting rights, the birth of our democracy, and more.
Writer-actor Ruskin captures Paine’s brilliance, contradictions and contrariness in his one-man play about the radical enlightenment figure that helped forge America’s core. The eloquence and passion of Thomas Paine are on full view in Ian Ruskin’s vivid portrayal of this fiery patriot. No other Founding Father was anywhere close to Thomas Paine in his vision of democracy. He helped shaped our national character and even today inspires us to be better guardians of that legacy. He based his beliefs on one simple yet powerful idea, “justice for all.” This call for justice resounds in America today in the exhortations of the Occupy movement and in the words of Martin Luther King: “the moral arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice.”
“The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”
- Thomas Paine
The play is 70 minutes long with a Q&A following.
