Tingel Tangel Club 6-Year Anniversary

SEE EVENT DETAILS
New York "downtown impresario" (Time Out) Earl Dax celebrates the 6-year anniversary of his decadent and politically tinged cabaret, Tingel Tangel Club, on Wednesday, April 16 at Brick & Mortar with co-hosts Marga Gomez and Justin Sayre. An outgrowth of the sprawling Weimar New York shows at SFMOMA in February 2008, Tingel Tangel has continued Weimar's bi-coastal intermingling of performance art, drag, burlesque and vaudeville in more intimate venues, from the Bubble Lounge to Cafe du Nord. For this birthday edition beloved Bay Area comic and theater artist Marga Gomez presides over the proceedings with NYC-based Justin Sayre, described by Michael Musto in the Village Voice as “Oscar Wilde meets Whoopi Goldberg.”

Sayre, host of the monthly cult hit The Meeting* and creator and host of the annual Night of A Thousand Judys, makes his SF debut at Tingel Tangel. Other NYC-based artists on the bill include boylesque performer Matthew Charles Crosland of the gender-bending Pixie Harlots and acclaimed puppeteer Basil Twist who is known to Bay Area audiences for his collaboration with choreographer-director Joe Goode on the dance-theater piece Wonderboy. San Francisco performers rounding out the line up include chanteuse Veronica Klaus, renowned contortionist Elliott Gittelsohn indie music sweetheart Uni & Her Ukele, burlesque performer Kitty Von Quim, drag legend Ethel Merman, and the new 6-piece band Pachuco Cadaver featuring Suzanne Ramsey (aka Kitten on the Keys).

Tingel Tangel Club takes place on Wednesday, April 16 at Brick & Mortar Music Hall, 1710 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94103. Tickets are $12 in advance / $15 at the door. Details and ticketing at: http://www.brickandmortarmusic.com/event/525853-tingel-tangel-club-6-year-san-francisco/

ABOUT JUSTIN SAYRE

JUSTIN SAYRE was In a recent story for Edge New York, Steve Weinstein said “Comedian, raconteur, performing artist, gay rights activist and sexual outlaw: I’m not sure Justin Sayre is classifiable. The veteran performer is on his way to becoming a Downtown Manhattan institution along the lines of Charles Ludlum or Charles Busch.” Justin is a child of Forty Fort, Pennsylvania who demonstrated a supernatural instinct for “camp” at an early age. With a voice straight out the MGM finishing school for girls, he moved to New York believing it was still 1947. He was terribly misinformed. As an actor, he has worked and studied with some of the finest professionals in the city. As a comedian, Sayre is regular guest at Homo-Comicus at the Gotham Comedy Club and contributing writer to Murray Hill’s ShowBiz on MTVX. As a gay, Justin has excelled at scarf placement, devilish quips, and a healthy but firm love of the American musical. An evening of his short plays, Justin Sayre Is Alive and Well… Writing – called one of the “Top 10 Events on the New York Stage” by the New York Daily News – sold out two shows at Ars Nova in 2012. Sayre’s play,The Click of the Lock, was a finalist for the Eugene O’Neill Theater Conference and debuted at The Cherry Lane Theatre starring Randy Harrison. Sayre is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post and Flavorwire, as well offering playful and witty love advice at The Date Report. He is currently writing a young adult novel which will be released by Penguin Books in the summer of 2015. More on Sayre at: http://www.internationalorderofsodomites.com/about/justin-sayre/
