Tim Kapeluck and The Gerry Tenney Group ++ Special guest Suzy Thompson
January 11th in Berkeley CA
Music from the heart of Tim Kapeluck and the Hills of Woodstock,
with the Gerry Tenney Group
Singer/songwriter, multi instrumentalist Tim Kapeluck's music is steeped in the traditions of bluegrass and Appalachian folk. He played for many years with banjo legends Bill Keith and Eric Weissberg, and Dobro great Cindy Cashdollar. Tim's songs include stories of heartbreak and redemption, characters that live on the fringes, and social commentary,
Long one of the best known and sought-after singers and instrumentalists in the Woodstock N.Y. scene, Tim has emerged as a major songwriter as well. After a near death experience, his songs burst forth full and rich, like they had been waiting inside of him for many years. Weaving together his life story as a carpenter, hospice nurse, and musician, with his deep roots in the mountains and nature, his first CD "Time And Gravity" is a beautiful story told by a master story teller.
Tim will be accompanied by a super band put together by Bay Area favorite, Gerry Tenney, who played with Tim in Woodstock in the 70's; they have kept a musical and personal friendship going ever since. Joe Rosato Jr will be on bass, Blaine Sprouse on fiddle (Blaine currently plays with Peter Rowan, and has played with bluegrass greats such as Jimmy Martin and Jim and Jesse), Leslie Tenney on backup vocals, and Eric Yates from Hot Buttered Rum on banjo and dobro .
Tim's Woodstock CD release party was a smashing success in his home town. Let's give him a big Bay Area welcome.

Suzy Thompson is one of the rare musicians today who has mastered multiple styles of Southern fiddling, from prewar acoustic blues to Cajun and Creole to old-time fiddle, especially the kind that has a ragtime or blues feel. A powerful blues singer in the styles of Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith, and a highly respected blues finger-picking guitarist, Suzy is unique in her ability to combine fiddle, vocals and guitar in the blues, old time country and ragtime idioms. In 2003, after thirty years as a working musician, Suzy Thompson released her first solo CD, "No Mockingbird" which features blues songs (including the title track, which has been described as "Memphis Minnie on acid") and old-time fiddle rags. Suzy is backed on the album by an all-star cast including Maria Muldaur, Fritz Richmond, Geoff Muldaur, and Mike Seeger. Her followup CD, "Stop & Listen", released by Arhoolie Records in 2005, is a live concert recording with Del Rey, Eric Thompson, and the Thompson String Ticklers.Over the past three decades, Suzy has been a leading force in many influential roots music groups, including the California Cajun Orchestra (two award-winning CDs on the Arhoolie label), the Blue Flame String Band (with Kate Brislin and Alan Senauke), Klezmorim (who started the klezmer music revival in the 1970's), the all-woman Any Old Time String Band (featured on the Grammy-winning Arhoolie box set), and most recently, the Bluegrass Intentions (with banjo ace Bill Evans.) She has also worked with Darol Anger, Laurie Lewis, Beausoleil, Peter Rowan, Maria Muldaur, Jody Stecher, Del Rey, Geoff Muldaur, Alice Gerrard, D.L. Menard, Jane Voss, Rinde Eckert, the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, Sukay, and Frankie Armstrong, among others.
