A celebration of the songs and career of pop legend Barry Manilow, the cabaret-style production of "This One's For You" comes to the Firehouse Arts Center Theater on Sunday, February 25, at 2:00 p.m.
The show stars four of the Bay Area's brightest music and theater veterans. Kyle Martin, the popular star of Broadway's JOEL: The Band, reunites with his former co-star from The World of Webber Tielle Baker, who starred in last season's CHICAGO: The Musical. Joining Kyle and Tielle are Theatre Bay Area Award-Winners Nikita Burshteyn (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Andrea J. Love (Urinetown: The Musical).
"This One's For You" features a long set list of Manilow's most enduring hits, including: I Write The Songs, Copacabana, Mandy, Somewhere In The Night, It's A Miracle, and Can't Smile Without You, plus many more. The universal message of Manilow's music has always been to inspire, uplift and to "make it through," and the show promises to honor both the message and the messenger.
Barry Manilow did indeed write the songs... over 400, including twelve #1's and 47 Top 50 singles. His unparalleled career encompasses virtually every facet of music-making, as a performer, composer, arranger, and producer. He has been recognized with every top entertainment accolade, having received Grammy, Emmy and Tony Awards, and an Academy Award nomination. Speaking of Grammys, Manilow has been nominated for a Grammy Award (winning once) as a producer, arranger and performer a total of fifteen times (and in every decade) from 1973 to 2015.
And yes, he has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists.
Critics claimed Manilow was "sentimental" - exactly, and we loved it, and we still love it.
