Oakland-based artist Georgia Carbone presents The Earth Is My Body / My Body Is the Earth, an installation and performance. Drawing on ritual and ceremony, Carbone, in collaboration with experimental musician Joseph Angelo, will transform YBCA’s lobby into a space of sensory engagement. Immersed in a harmonic soundscape, participants will be invited to taste organic food and offer the remains to contribute to a sculpture, as part of a performance ritual that evokes the natural processes of decay and rebirth. The sculpture will ultimately be composted, in a biological act of beauty and poetry.
Join YBCA on the third Thursday evening of each month for free gallery admission, extended hours, and live programming. Every month we invite Bay Area artists, thinkers, and culture makers to present unique experiences that you’ll only find at YBCA. From live performances and interventions to dialogues and discussions, third Thursdays promise inspiration and fun.
