San Jose's metal scene definitely leans heavily toward the brutal modern metalcore scene, with the machine-gun pounding drums and the growling vocals. Less well represented are the classic thrash grooves and shredding guitars from the '80s and '90s. Locals the Unwilling seemingly have one foot in each world. As a five-piece, they put heavy stress on the dueling guitar work, which is classic to its core but truly vibrant in its energy. The technical chops and unrelenting aggression place them comfortably in today's metal scene, but they do so with a little more sophistication than a lot of their contemporaries.
