Cocktails, food and music! The vibe is Kitschy cool, Tiki chic!
Created with an unused swimming pool in the basement of the Fairmont Hotel in 1967, the Tonga Room takes tiki kitsch to another level with live music from a boat floating in the middle of the room, tropical rainstorms, bamboo tabletops and a variety of refreshing umbrella-laced drinks. It's hard to imagine this classic San Francisco bar has changed much since it opened, and that's just fine.

Lauded as the best happy hour in town complete with an indoor hurricane, the Tonga Room (950 Mason @ California), in the Fairmont Hotel, was calling. After wandering the hotel for 10 minutes trying to find the place, we entered true kitsch tiki style. The drinks were complete with slices of pineapple and umbrellas and $2.00 cheaper for happy hour, however they did seem to lack a little punch.
