'The Tender Gardener' by Lana Williams: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee and The Mill are pleased to present 'The Tender Gardener' by Lana Williams. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Lana Williams makes abstract paintings that employ process, form, and an acute attention to materiality. Intuitive use of color and playful gestures using pigmented smoke, dye, and bleach are some of the ways she articulates subtle stories into the paintings. For 'The Tender Gardener', Williams is interested in the act of looking inward and outward. Her paintings require slowing down to reveal secret moments, like when a shift in perception allows you to see something new that has been there all along.

Lana Williams is an Oakland-based artist and 2013 MFA graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute. Williams has shown in the San Francisco Bay Area and in New York at galleries including Interface, City Limits, R/SF Projects, Minnesota Street Projects, Kathleen Cullen, and the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art. She was featured on KQED in an article, “Bay Area Painting Right Now: Lana Williams Breaks the Rules.” She is part of the collaborative group Bonanza that has shown at the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, Southern Exposure, Walter McBean Gallery, n/a gallery, Artists' Television Access, Interface, Royal Nonesuch Gallery, The Niad Art Center, and is currently the Artist in Resident at San Francisco Recology.

'The Tender Gardener' runs from August 16th through October 9h at The Mill in San Francisco. Join us on Friday August 17th from 6-8pm for the opening reception. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

The Mill is a cafe and bakery that has been supporting artists with exhibitions since 2013. This exhibition is free and open to the public. The Mill is located at 736 Divisadero St., and is open from 7am until 9pm every day. Contact [email protected] and visit themillsf.com.
