The Sun Ra Arkestra comes to the stage at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center under the direction of Marshall Allen. Since 1954, Marshall Allen has been the fiery core of the Arkestra, pushing it to perform to perfection and beyond. The Arkestra's big-band traditionalism is as radical today as their Afro-futurist iconoclasm has been since the 1950's. Opening this show are Black Spirituals, who use a "multi-aesthetic approach to improvisation" to create a sonic resonance that speaks of rich relationships to one's surroundings, memories, profound feelings, dreams, and the experiences that inspire human expression.
