Cars are becoming smarter and smarter: Over 30% of the cost of a new car is electronics - the trend is growing. Navigation systems, intelligent saftey systems, wireless communication and a multitude of sensors support today's driver. In addition, the supporting infrastructure around the driver becomes more intelligent - built-in sensors in the road, communication between vehicles themselves and to the road are on the rise. First autonomous vehicles with no driver at all have been successfully demonstrated at the DARPA Grand Challenge in 2005.
